Now it’s my drawing students’ turn in the Studio Gallery.  There are thirty-three drawings on exhibit, grouped by artist.  The work stretches over a two year period. You’ll see a variety of styles, in both still life and head/figure studies.

13StudioGalMaggyDrawing is an intimate medium. You can’t look at a drawing from across the room.  You have to get up close and personal.  This is the medium that gives you the feeling that you are entering another mind as it tries to grasp the complexities of perception. Drawing is closest to my heart.

13StudioGalLinneThanks to Cynthia Bold, Linné Dosé, Gabrielle Edgerton, Karen Gerrard, Ale Podestá, and Maggy Shell for submitting your work.  Thank you, Ale, for helping me with hanging the show and applying your good eye.

13StudioGallAleThe work is for sale, at negotiable prices.  The show closes Oct 27.

13StudioGalGabyDrawings are hard to document by camera.  You’ll just have to come in and see.  Here’s the notice from the Evanston Art Center web site:

The opening for the Masters of Fine Arts exhibition at the Sullivan Galleries is a gala event. “Gala”  can mean your most heartfelt grunge, your most glittering find at the resale shop or an original hand stitched gown.  It’s the place to see and be seen.  I went in my usual Left Bank black turtle neck and caught some frames in my little Sony.  I’ll go back to have a closer look at the art work before the show closes. But without the context of the crowd (and what a crowd it was, numerically and sartorially) the art work may actually not be decipherable.

April 12–May 17, 2013

HOURS: Tue- Sat, 11:00a.m. – 6:00p.m.

I recommend going to openings, not only for the art, but also to get a reading on the “art scene.” To take in the art work, you’ll want to be on your own solitary self some other time.

You can find a comprehensive listing of gallery openings at http://chicagogallerynews.com/openings.

The current exhibit at the Evanston Art Center is titled “dimensional lines: art + dress.”   Beware, this is not a runway show.  The sub title is “art-fashion-decay.”  Decay, again. This is not an easy, pretty or even pleasant show.  It’s on the difficult side.  When you come, allow time to reflect.  The exhibit is up through November 6.
