These are some of my ten minute drawings from last Monday. We are a group of artists who meet at the Evanston Art Center for three hours to draw and paint from the model.
I drew on gloss paper with China marker; 11 x 14.
Lovely drawings!
A china marker! Nice. On gloss paper! Nice.
Thanks for sharing… and the inspiration to start drawing from life again…. soon…
I buy the gloss paper at a ware-house-type store called XPEDX. So, it’s not an art-store paper and it’s not museum grade, but it’s very resistant to fading and yellowing because it has a metallic coat. Anyway, you can get something equivalent in any office supply store from the shelves with digital paper used for color printing. So much for the paper. The China marker is waxy and glides easily over this smooth glossy paper, which makes it ideal for fast drawing. You get a nice black line–effortlessly, without pressure. If you do lean into it a bit you get a wonderful deep black velvety line or surface. Now, you can’t erase China marker, which is also an asset, because while you draw you just never think about erasing. At the end of your session you can clean it up a bit with a single edge razor blade.
